So, it's been a long time.

But no worries; I have been hard at work. I just have a new method this year of showing off my Christmas gifts; my goal is to take pictures of them with the people they are meant for. And for now, they're all wrapped up.. if you look to your left, you'll see all the ones for my coworkers and friends. Yay! I'm excited. I've made gifts for just about everyone I can think of. And luckily, I do have a few finished ones I can show off.The first, I can show before I have a picture of it and the recipient together. She's already opened it, seen it, and loves it.. and I figure we can wait til her big day to see it on.

Sarah's Wedding Garter

So first off, I'd like to say I'm extremely proud of this. I have made SO MANY of these garters and COULD NOT figure out WHY they were turning out so funky and small. And I finally figured it out. You see, I asked everyone how to do the yarnovers, but apparently even with all the advice on this pattern, I found a way to screw them up. I was wrapping them wrong, so the garter was turning out about half the width it should have been, and forget about running ribbon or elastic through it.. it was way too tight to look pretty. My failed ones have become ugly hair scrunchies for days I want my hair up but don't plan to leave the house.

Oh well. At least they're getting some use. I'm friggin stoked to see professional pictures of her wearing her dress and her garter :)

Aren't they a cute couple? This is my absolute favorite picture from their engagement shoot. My only complaint though is that I wish the photographer had moved them so it was her left hand instead!

My other finished gift; yarn ball ornaments! I saw these in Target, and I fell in love. I figured with my ridiculous yarn stash I could make these fast and for really cheap, and they could be a great gift for those people I come into contact with but don't feel like making full scarves/hats for...

They're super easy, and only take a few materials: styrofoam balls, yarn, glitter spray and a hot glue gun. However, I forgot how hot hot glue could actually get. I have several welts on my fingers.. yikes. I highly recommend gloves while doing this.

I've kept two of them for myself :) My cats haven't eaten them yet but we'll see how long that lasts.

I've fallen deeply in love with my hot glue gun, on another note. I swear I haven't used one since I was in 4th grade and I forgot how fantastic they are for crafts! It helps that mine is purple with white polka dots, also.

There WILL be more updates I swear! Yay Christmas.

I'm attempting to knit an Eloping garter for my friend who just got engaged. It looks sooo pretty and I'm stoked to get it done, it should ideally go pretty fast.

Am I THE ONLY ONE who doesn't understand it? I mean according to Ravelry over 200 people have successfully made it. I don't get it at all! How are you supposed to purl 2 together after a yarnover? I might just knit 2 together instead... I seriously cannot be the only one.

Anybody know what I'm talking about? I need some serious help!

The One-Hour Sweater

Oh, yes. I'm sure this thing took me about an hour, not counting the time it took to recycle a plastic bag into stitch markers and stitch holders! I adapted the human-size top-down sweater pattern into a cute sweater for Sammy, the squirrel Jason gave me. It started out as an iPod cozy, but I soon realized it fit over his head. And the sweater was born.

I'm not sure how I managed to do it without dropping a stitch or messing up in some way.. I did this after about 6 hours on the road on the way to Salt Lake. It may be warm now but come winter time, Sammy's going to get cold!

By the way, I moved! :) No more crappy Washington weather for me. I'm about settled in and I'm so happy; all that's missing is my wonderful boyfriend, but he'll be here soon enough. :)

I've discovered in this past week of moving, however, I have a serious love/hate relationship with Ikea furniture. I walk into the store with such high hopes, looking forward to constructing my new furniture, thinking about how fun it will be to put together and how cute it will look when it's finished. Then I get it home and pull all these parts out of the cardboard with the vague instructions, and I sort of want to cry.

I always love how it turns out, but getting it done is the biggest pain. Thank God they have an Ikea helpline.

Summer knitting is the best.

I found a new beach near my house. It's about a 15 minute drive, it's relatively secluded, and absolutely beautiful.

I've been there the past three days in a row after work skipping rocks (or trying), knitting, and just playing in the water.

I know, I know it's no California.. The water is ice cold and the rocks hurt your feet, but I am absolutely in love with the beach! There's something about knitting outside when it's warm that is really calming. I don't always get a lot done, but it makes me feel a little less lazy than knitting while I watch TV. :)

And in two weeks, I'll be down to only one job, which I'll only be working occasionally anyway, and I'll have all the freetime in the world to go.

Now I just have to look for replacements for when I'm in landlocked Utah!

I wanna know other people's favorite places to knit now. :)

Finished: Laceweight Lattice Scarf!

I am so stoked about this project. I got about halfway done with it, then it lingered for a few weeks.. then suddenly, a week away from my friend's graduation party, I realized her present wasn't finished yet. So I had some serious work to get done. I watched two full seasons of The Office while working like mad to get it done, and it was well worth it.

Unblocked, it was about five and a half feet long. I had no idea what a difference blocking made; it ended up being about 7 feet long when blocked. I didn't measure it, so that's a pretty rough estimate but wow. Lucky for me that means a

little less knitting next time I make one of these babies.. which bodes well for me because I have more of this yarn in light blue!

Speaking of this yarn, I'm in love with it. It is Knitpicks Shadow Kettle-Dyed in Clementine (it's on sale for $3.99, and they're being discontinued so if you want some snatch it up now!) It's so soft and surprisingly warm, and I love the different shades of orange. It's perfect for summer knitting; there's just something about the color that makes me feel cheery!

I made sure to take a picture of the recipient with the present this time :) I didn't make her try it on because it's finally pretty warm here!

Good news! I have ungodly amounts of time to knit now.. because I am officially done with my classes!

The scarf to the left is based on my Lattice scarf pattern, I just added two more pattern repeats so I could knit it in laceweight yarn. I sort of added to my already-enormous stash a while ago and got some of Knitpicks' kettle-dyed yarn in bright orange, light blue, and dark blue. The orange seemed perfect for my friend Victoria, as she has a darker coloring and bright colors work great on her. And, of course, I needed to make/buy her a graduation present and I knew this was something she'd use! I could get her towels, etc for college but she'll be getting that from everyone. Pfft. I could get her stuff from Bath and Body Works to go with it.. because I'm addicted.

You know how it's a sign of alcoholism if you try to hide the alcohol you buy and whatnot? I totally had that mentality about my lotion this morning because their semi-annual sale started and I stocked up. (PS. Check out B&BW's semi-annual sale because it is amazing..) It's pretty bad.
Anyway, I've also knitted more charity scarves. One is unpictured because it's already packed away in a box (oops!) but this one still needs to be tagged with ribbon so I still have it out :) Thus far, I think I have five scarves to donate! And many more that need to be knitted because, as I said.. I have so much (repeat SO MUCH) yarn.

OH OH! And you know how I said classes were over? Well I sort of meant classes are COMPLETELY over at community college and I have my Associate of Arts and Sciences Degree, as well as my high school diploma, as of Thursday night!

I have more/better pictures of graduation on other people's cameras, but this is the only one on mine:

You can see a liiiiittle bit of my gown in this picture and my wonderful supportive boyfriend who had to sit through the longest graduation ever. It was supposed to start at 7 and actually started at almost 8.

Either way, it was fun! :)

And I cannot believe I actually have a degree. I feel so productive. Only about two more years and I'll have a Bachelor's degree.

Thennnnnnn I can get married!

But most importantly I'll be on my way to a good career, and have a few more options job-wise.

Every time I work on my full-size rainbow blanket, Dewey sleeps on it, without fail. I lost the yarn I needed to finish the full-size one (it has since been relocated and the blanket can finally be finished). So, I worked on a blanket just for Dewey instead out of scrap yarn! I was a little worried he wouldn't sleep on it, as anything you get specifically for him to sleep on gets avoided like the plague. This one is different though! He sleeps on it every day :)

And he looks so cute on it!!

I've also been working on the Spirit of Adventure pattern! I made one attempt that turned out to be way too skinny. This next attempt seems to be working out well, it's more balloon-shaped, and it's about halfway done; I'll make sure I post pictures before I felt it! I'm not sure how exactly I'm going to do the letters; I don't want to chart it, I just don't know if I want to stitch it on before I felt it or after.

I'm hoping this will turn out as cute as I'm imagining it!

I wish I knew more about short-rows because I think it might make the shape better. I can do short rows in patterns but I have no idea how to actually write them into a pattern.

As a side note, there's only two weeks left until I'm done with classes, and I can devote my time fully to work and knitting! I am SOO EXCITED!

I absolutely adore this movie. If I'm ever sad or sick like I was last night, I just pop it in and instantly I'm happy again, although admittedly the part I posted makes me cry.

There's a part in the beginning where Carl as a kid is running around holding a balloon that says "The Spirit of Adventure." It's when he first meets Ellie.

I wanna knit a pillow that looks like it.

I'm still figuring out the dimensions and all, but I am soo excited! :) I'll probably post updates later on today.

So, while I always love knitting, the love waxes and wanes. At times, I don't feel at all like knitting; I feel too lazy, or too worried about messing up, or more like messing around on the computer. Other times, I can't put the damn needles down.

This is one of those times.

I went with Jason to his friends' house so they could fix his computer. I brought along one ball of yarn to make a scarf. I figured it would last me a while, as I'd just started it in the car on the drive over and for Chrissake it was a scarf, they take me forever to finish. Turns out that's only because I lose steam. Apparently if I really focus, I can whip out a scarf in a few hours. As soon as I bound off, I felt so lost. Jason came back upstairs to let me and his friend's wife know what the deal was and how long everything was going to take, and I had to ask if he'd take me to Walmart to pick up another ball of yarn. I didn't feel I could survive the rest of the day without it. My hands just felt so empty!

It was my mistake, however, to phrase that as "I just want something to do with my hands!"

Either way, this picture shows the cute pink and yellow yarn I picked up.. and a frozen Twinkie and a little caramel Bailey's. Yum.

So what have I been knitting, you may ask?

These lovelies. The beige scarf took me a few days, but the green and red scarves were literally made within a twenty-four hour time frame, and they're all about 5'6'' long! Those are baby hats, also. Awwh they're so cute; I wish I knew somebody having a baby girl because I really want to see a baby wearing one of these.

I have realized I really like knitting for charity. I don't feel as much pressure to make it perfect because in the back of my mind I know whoever receives it will be happy regardless. Which means I mess up less, ironically. It's much more calming knitting. It also makes me feel good to know I'm helping somebody! The purple ribbons are for the Susan Cox Powell Foundation, and they are coupled with white ribbon that says "You are loved." My plan for these, I think, is to donate them to a local women's shelter. I'm not entirely sure if the baby hats should go there also, or if they should go to a hospital instead, but I suppose I have time to decide.

Also, I feel I have to show off my ring from Etsy seller Larkgemshop.

Disclaimer: Not an engagement ring. Just a graduation present to myself... and admittedly I kind of sort of wanted to know if I would prefer a blue sapphire engagement ring instead of a diamond. Teehee.

She really went the extra mile for me. I was really indecisive about what shape and size and setting I wanted, and she talked me through my options, the different prices, etc. I finally settled on a round 4mm blue sapphire in sterling silver, which ended up being $40 total. There were a few delays in the making of this ring, which she apologized for and made up for by including a free matching pendant with my order, which is gorgeous. I wear both pieces pretty much every day, and they look so nice! And the solitaire looks pretty with my promise ring.. I occasionally wear it this way at work to ward off creepy men, although not too often if I feel social because it would be a little weird to say "my boyfriend", not "my husband."

Anyway, I most definitely recommend this seller, the jewelry is reasonably priced and completely customizeable and she is very easy to talk to! :)

The Susan Cox Powell Foundation

I know this isn't knitting but it's important (and I can tie it in! You'll see. Read the whole thing.)

So, I was at work today when a woman came in with a flyer about Susan Cox Powell, her friend who had gone missing, and the story really touched me. She has been missing since December 2009, and her own husband is a person of interest. A foundation was established in 2010 to not only support the search for Susan, but to help out in all missing persons cases as well as domestic violence cases.

I can't imagine what Susan's family must be going through. The woman who came in (if it was you I'm sorry I didn't catch your name! Nothing personal :)) told me about how hard Mother's day was, because Susan's sons were without their mother, and Susan's mother didn't have her daughter.

Needless to say, it made me cry and I offered to help in any way I can.

Thus, I am using this blog to spread the word.

He is SO CUTE! I love this pattern! It turns out adorable, and is surprisingly easy to follow.

This is also my first felting project. The poor thing sat abandoned for a few months because I was scared of ruining him when I tried to felt him! Luckily, Jason convinced me it would be okay and I tossed him in the washing machine.

I finished this scarf! :) It's not the best picture, it doesn't show off the scarf all that well.. but after 2 pictures (this and one with my eyes closed) my camera died :(

I used Vanna's Glamour in Sapphire which is suprisingly soft and really pretty. It's the perfect Spring scarf because it's cute and just a little warm but not enough to make you feel like you're dying if it starts to heat up outside.. which it does in Washington, totally randomly. I mean seriously.. this morning it was pouring down rain and now it's gorgeous and I even have to roll my windows down because it's a little too warm.

I'm hoping Salt Lake will be a little more predictable weather-wise than Washington... We'll see.

Only three months until the big move! I'll have to find a knitting group down there. :)

I finished Jason's Huggable Hedgehog!

Well, mostly; he isn't felted yet :) But he's already huggable and cute! I've been putting him off for a long time.. I finished the body shortly after I started, but then I was nervous about messing up the back. So I finally started again, and managed to knit the back and now it's been a few weeks and I never felted him. I called one of my mom's friends to ask her advice, and she made it sound so much simpler than it did in my knitting books or online. I assumed there was so much that could go wrong.. turns out it's really not as hard as I was building it up to be, yay!

Speaking of Jason, it's time that I officially introduce you to him...

Really.

But I'm seriously sick of people who think eating gluten-free is healthier. I work in a bakery currently, and everyone and their dog comes in saying how it helps you lose weight, makes you feel more awake, etc etc.......... even if you don't have Celiac's disease. Now see, I'm pleased to offer gluten free selections to those with the disease. I think that's awesome. But when people come in, perfectly healthy, and choose to eat bread that not only doesn't taste as good, but is quite a bit more expensive because they naively believe it's healthier, that angers me.

You know why there's the occasional person who feels better after going gluten free?

It's called the placebo effect.

I remember learning about a study in Psychology 100 that was something like, 20 people took pills; 10 were told they were a stimulant, and 10 were told they were a sleep aid. What happened? The people who were told it was a stimulant felt more awake and alert and better able to perform at work. The people who were told it was a sleep aid had the best night's sleep of their life. Interesting. Needless to say, the same thing can happen with stupid health fads like going gluten free. If we've survived on it for thousands of years I think we'll be okay eating it still. Really.

IN FACT; My boss found an article that indicated that going gluten-free can lower the amount of good bacteria in your gut. So... in the long run you're going to be unhealthier. Great.

I know my little knitting blog won't change people's opinion on this. But this is a good outlet; I can limit my risk of aneurysm and urge to kill in the future when non-Celiac customers order gluten free bread.

It's been a long time.

Unfortunately............. I don't have new pictures of my knitting projects!

I finished my sister and brother-in-law's Musica mittens and they ADORE them, and all their friends are jealous. Mission accomplished. I asked if they could take pictures of them at some point, as it slipped my mind to do so while they were actually here (oops!)

However, I DO have a picture of my brother's scarf!:)

It took me until early January to actually finish it. I was about half done on Christmas Eve, when my sister and brother-in-law opened their gifts.. I was still working on it and casually mentioned "Aaron.. yours might not be done by Christmas."

Oops!

Regardless, he has his Christmas gift now!

Jason and I went to the park with a bag of peanuts and adopted a squirrel!

We offered this little guy a peanut, just to try to lure him a little closer and he came charging at us! Both he and I were ready to kick him, though, cause we were scared he was rabid.. but turns out he's just really friendly!! We decided to name him Sammy :)

At one point he actually crawled up into my lap to get the peanut :)

I promise I've been doing some knitting between feeding squirrels but yet again, fall quarter is eating my soul!

I started knitting Shooting Mittens for Jason, and I'm close to being done with the first one (although it may be a little loose!) and I have to figure out the fingers.

I also finished the first Musica glove for my sister and started on the second.. and the yarn for her husband's is sitting in my yarn bins.

Oh, and I started a Huggable Hedgehog! It's adorable so far!! I finished the front and now I'm just trying to figure out how to pick up stitches for the back. Especially cause it's so cute I feel guilty for not working on it more!

And I've lost a little steam for Lelah. But at the moment it's three feet away from me and I'm itching to work on it.. even though I need to work on Biology....

Dewey Scarf Finished!

I gave it to Ashley today as an early birthday present, and she loves it!

I made it about five and a half feet long, about five inches wide. I used two balls of Knitpicks Wool of the Andes in Pumpkin, and one ball of Red Heart Soft Yarn in white. I was trying to destash a little bit, but I had to buy more of the Red Heart yarn (which, by the way, thank god for no dye lot yarns!) so I have nearly a full ball left of that. Lame! Either way, the scarf turned out really soft and pretty. I almost didn't want to part with it!

The first ever picture of Lelah.The Hooters girl serving us noticed it in my purse and was so excited, she asked if I knit or crocheted. I showed her a picture of what it should look like when finished she told me I had to come back when I was done. She even brought other waitresses over to show them what I was making. It was pretty fun, it definitely made me happy! And now, I vow that when I'm finished with Lelah I'm getting a picture with the Hooters girls.

Plus, I want an excuse to go back anyway because the restaurant introduced me to fried pickles.. Mmmmm. Kind of weird but sooo tasty.

Anyway, about Lelah, she's about 3 1/2 inches long. I figure I need to knit about 8 inches for the stockinette section but of course I'll try it on and all. It still feels like it's going fast, as all projects do when I first start them, so I'm trying to knit as much as possible NOW before I lose steam! It's also easier to work on when I don't have to pay much attention to it.

Aaaanyway, enough writing for tonight. Back to knitting!!

However, yarn gods kiss my ass because due to my lack of attention with the stockinette section I have an accidental yarn over.

I finished the Scottie sweater! I haven't found a suitable model so in the meantime here are pictures of the sweater itself:

I alsoo finished my St. John's Wort gloves!

I actually finished them a few days ago but I've definitely been dragging my feet about weaving in the ends. They're so warm and cozy and they will be PERFECT for winter! I can't wait for it to get cold again.

I can't believe this, but I'm also about three inches away from finishing the body on my top-down black sweater (formerly known as my skeleton hoodie.) I decided to do pink and black striped ribbing at the bottom, I really like the look of it. I didn't really want to leave it completely black, plus! Stashbusting!

I made it a little smaller than necessary but it fits really well at least!

Ashley's Dewey scarf is about 2 1/2 feet long at this point as well. Oops, no picture!

I'm trying to finish as many projects as possible before I get my most recent Knitpicks order. I'll take pictures when I get it, oooh teaser.

I never cared much for Lelah until I saw Julie of Teamknit's version:

So now I really want to make it.. after I finish my lace scarf, and possibly work on a sweater that I started ages ago, and of course the fingerless gloves I'm making with Mochi Plus (that I have to find more yarn for.. I think I used too much for the first...:( Dammit!)

Oh and of course school work.. I'm soo done with summer quarter.

While I like the look of the yarn she used, I need something a little more machine-washable. And of course, relatively inexpensive..

I'm thinking Stroll in Cocoa, with a blue or a pink ribbon? Although I do like the white but I don't trust myself with a white handknit shirt, it's just begging for chocolate or spaghetti sauce or something equally unremovable! Although I do like Granny Smith. And the twisted colors.. Or Ash. Or Sapphire Heather or Merlot Heather.

So, I went to work today at Cheney Stadium and I wasn't particularly excited about being there. Don't get me wrong, I love having a job and sometimes I truuuly enjoy it but other times (like today!) I'd rather be napping.
Until I noticed something on the Party Deck schedule..
STITCH AND PITCH.
I threw a mini-fit that I wasn't working that deck, but I got over it soon enough. I managed to go up to the deck at some point and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had yaaarn for saaale! I couldn't help but fondle it. Of course, while making sure my boss didn't find me. I couldn't help it. They brought yarn to me at WORK! WTF!!

I went back to my station after fondling the more expensive yarns (like one that was the softest thing ever, but $25 a skein.. and let's face it I don't have that kind of money). I told my friends how excited I was. My favorite response:
"I've never seen someone get so excited over yarn. Are you part kitty-cat?"

Pfff. Nobody understands.
I got off work relatively early though and bought some gorgeous soft yarn!!!

Today was freaking awesome.

Yeah the immense irritation part was added after Firefox decided to shut down and while it was nice enough to save my tabs, it was NOT nice enough to save what I was writing even though I was like a half a second away from publishing!
However, Nauvoo, Illinois happens to also be immensely irritating. I'm here for my sister's wedding. Let me explain. Nauvoo is a town of approximately 900 people, and it is known for Mormonism and grapes. Translation? I am having the time of my life.
Not.
Sooo anyway, my mom and sister are off doing girly wedding stuff and I'm in bed, slightly sick, and fairly tired because yesterday I got two hours of sleep; one hour on the plane, the other hour on the floor of the airport. And stayed up late for my sister's fourth (yes, fourth) bridal shower. Thank God for cake, otherwise I wouldn't have anything decent to use to try to distract myself.
Speaking of cake.
I made Hungry!I used orange Red Heart yarn held with orange fun fur for the body, just fun fur for the arms and duh, googly eyes for the eyes. I used size 7 needles I believe. I didn't use a pattern or even write one out because I just knitted a triangle for the body, sewed it up along the sides, sewed on two small rectangles as arms, and attached the eyes. Fairly simple. I made him so small that I could only stuff him a little bit. My friend loves him, he thought he was adorable. He's now sitting in his car:) So I'm proud of him.

I also picked up two balls of Vanna's Glamour yarn in... blue. I don't remember the color, one of the balls is about two feet away from me but it's on the floor and I don't want to move. But they only have one blue so I figure it's okay. Anyway, I started making this..
It's a super simple lace pattern, just yo,k2tog across. I love simple things like that.. I can have my eyes closed while I do it. I fell asleep on the plane while I was knitting it. When I woke up I checked for mistakes and I hadn't made any. Haha!
It's abouuut 4 feet long so far, maybe six inches across unstretched. I can't wait until it's done and blocked!
I might be able to finish it with just the ball I'm working on which is awesome. Means I get to make another one for someone, or find something else to make with this yarn! I'm not sure yet.
When it's done I'll be sure to take pictures!

And I'll try to knit more and blog more!

Oh and funny story, I just published this right? Then I went to edit posts... my old post was there. Jesus.

New Project

But good news, I've come up with something new I wanna make for my friend. When the Weight Watchers commercials with this guy came on, he fell in love with him.So I'm gonna knit one. I found a small stash of orange fuzzy yarn in my stash, it's not the same color but I think it may be passable. :)

Gotta work on my English paper but I wanted to brag first :)

This rainbow blanket might actually be done in the foreseeable future. I have over a foot of the green done now (it was in plain sight the whole time, obviously.) then I just have to sew them together :)

I alsoo finished, pressed, and hung my cross stitch :)

I'm so proud of myself, I find it hilarious. Especially because my parents had an appraiser come by today and I'm wondering whether she saw it or not.. :)

I've spent my spring break sick and haven't knitted much. Especially because I've become addicted to the game that came with my new BLACKBERRY BOLD.. After replacing my phone three times and getting defective ones every time, I whined enough that they decided to just go ahead and upgrade me and I LOVE IT.

But I'll try to finish my rainbow blanket :)

And, I have to teach my friend how to knit too!

It took longer than it should have. In the pattern, it says to decrease when you're about half an inch away from the end of the camera.
First of all, I had to frog some of the stitches because I didn't realize it meant in just stockinette, I thought it was including the ribbing. Then, after redoing it, it still wasn't quiite long enough. But I didn't frog it, I just knit it longer. It still should have been a liiiiiiittle bit longer to fit the way I was envisioning, but I just.. don't care enough?
It covers the camera enough that I feel comfortable tossing it in my purse, so I'm done.

And I'm making lots of progress on my blanket! I have about 2 feet left of the blue section. I knit a lot of it because there was an America's Next Top Model marathon on, yay! I don't even know why I like that show. I hate the modeling industry. Especially when I've put on a liiittle weight.. But I digress.

Spring break is coming up, which means I'll have more time to knit :) Maybe I'll have time to start my Cherie Amour!
It'll be an interesting project, because I bought the yarn for $2 a ball and I HAD TO HAVE IT.
Only two of them match in dyelot.
...Hope it works! :D

More progress on my neglected rainbow blanket!

I finished the yellow section, and started on the blue!

I would have loved to start on the green instead but it seems to have gone MIA. Oh well! I also have to make the red section a little longer. Oops!

I'm really excited though; I can't wait to have a big rainbow to snuggle up in. Plus, I'm thinking of lining it with fleece so it'll be really cozy. :)

Speaking of cozy, I have to finish my camera cozy. I remember the pattern said to do something when you're 1/2" away from the end of the camera, but I don't remember what and until now I haven't looked up what exactly I'm supposed to do. I'm about to though! Then you'll have pictures of it from either my dad's camera or my camera phone.

Speaking of my phone, my first one started to irritate me.. it began to randomly switch the input language to Arabic (so I nicknamed it Al Queda), so three days before my warranty was up I exchanged it for the one I have now. The scroll ball on the one I have now is apparently possessed. (so this one is nicknamed Reagen) I couldn't do anything with it this morning, so I called the warranty line. I think they heard the frustration/agony in my voice, I'll be getting a new one tomorrow or Tuesday with the $20 fee waved. Thank God. I may have killed someone otherwise.

So, since this is fairly image heavy, and I don't feel like going through and moving the pictures I've just uploaded into the order I wanted before, I'll just write about them in order of appearance.

My hubcap
My friend Tom and I went to a park and I found this old hubcap. I thought it was really cool, so I took it home. As you can kind of see in the picture, it's extreeemely dirty. I spent an hour or two today starting to clean it; it was the first nice day we've had in a while :)
Somewhat more clean in this picture. See that rag sitting next to it? By the time I was done it was entirely black and brown. Plus I used paper towels.
This was the final picture for today.. I got it a lot cleaner!
I'm thinking of making it into a clock, but I'm not sure. We'll see :)

Camera cozy
Who didn't see this coming? I'm a knitter with a new gadget that needs protecting, obviously I'll have to knit myself one. It's about halfway done.

And here's a picture of it with the camera inside, taken by my phone. I'm so excited! I feel like I haven't knitted anything worth showing off in a long time.
Baby Legwarmers
Well.. My mom's friend wanted me to knit three pairs of baby legwarmers for her daughter's baby shower. She'll be paying me $30 for them.
But they are a pain.
She wanted black, white, and pink ones. She had the yarn all picked out and everything..
The black is a feather yarn.
The white is a fuzzy, soft yarn and it's cute but annoying as hell to knit with.
And finally.. the pink is Fun Fur.
It's killing me. I need to finish them but I can't manage to do it, I hate the yarn. Yarnovers are difficult and k2tog's are nearly impossible. Which begs the question, why did I decide to throw eyelets into the pattern?

Good question.

My Beloved Cross Stitch

This is my favorite thing ever. I still need to press and frame it, but I was giggling the whole time I made it. It'll be hanging in my room for now, but I can't wait to move out if not just for this :)

Oh, and one of the bullet shells in my collection. I'm also showing off my camera again. I love it!

AND THIS IS THE CAR I REALLY REALLY WANT. OMG. It's a Honda Civic Del Sol. It's so pretty! I won't have a car for a long time though. But I'm so in love with it.

I bought a new camera (I suppose one small step to independence? Less stuff of my parents' that I have to use haha.) BUT I cannot find the card reader and my ancient computer (Windows 2000) is being a little bitch.
I mean, first I plug in the camera after deciding the card reader is nowhere to be found.
All seems well.
"Camera found! Pictures loading."

Then a few minutes later;
"What camera?"

I suppose I'll start with pictures my dad took in Germany; my Oma knits and cross stitches and everything, so you could say it's in my genes. They have a holiday market every year; I think the stuff they sell is super cute.

Then, for his birthday, my dad asked me to knit him a penguin. This turned into a gift for him to give to my Oma, which I was fine with; he took this cute picture of her when she got it :)

Finished object picturess!

Ribbed Lace Bolero (but not)

I changed the pattern quite a bit.. haha. I used Caron Simply Soft Eco on #8s, did an inch or so of ribbing at the beginning and end of the rectangle for the body of it, the rest is in a diamond eyelet pattern. Then after I joined the ribbed parts, I picked up stitches on the side and knitted in the eyelet pattern for about 2 inches, then ribbing for an inch.

I think my sister will like it :) I'm proud of it.

Musica Fingerless Gloves

One and a half down:) I actually have a little more done than what's pictured. AND I KNOW, I MADE THE THINGS BACKWARDS. It's a secret.
I uh, didn't realize I should have read the charts from right to left.. heh. I'm just gonna say it makes them more unique. Hopefully Camellia will think the same way :)

Oh so many projects in progress.
These are Musica fingerless gloves. I'm so excited to finish these! They'll be my first real fairisle project.

I met a new knitting friend!
She's a foreign exchange student at my school.
But.. she's Japanese. Which is awesome. I love Japanese. And, it turns out her host family lives two houses down from me. Also awesome, especially because we have a movie class together, so we can rent them together and stuff.
But when I found out she knits, I was soo happy..
I'm gonna teach her how to make a top-down sweater. She saw me knitting one in class and wants to try it now.

Yaay.
As for my Skeleton hoodie, I'm just going to duplicate stitch the ribcage on because I can't be assed to learn intarsia. Particularly in the round.
And I'm about to split off the sleeves :)

Oh, and I started on the Jackyll and Hide pattern. Fail. I ignored my gauge swatch (So why the hell did I bother to even do it? Another fail.) and then, I somehow twisted the stitches when I joined them? Fail. And theen I took it off the needles and it looked like the start of a sweater. Faaaail.
Camellia might just get a different birthday present. And she may just get it in time for, I don't know... Christmas?

I sound bitter but I'm actually in a better mood than I've been for a while. I'm blaming it on the Musica.

I can thank my good friend Camellia for this idea.
We were bored, so she decided we should go to Michael's, because she wanted to get a cross stitch. I never pass down a trip to Michael's and I'm damn sure I didn't pass down this one.
I found a bunch of sales on yarn.
I bought two skeins of black Simply Soft yarn for $5, partially for use with this pattern, and partially for Christmas presents, assuming I ever get around to them.
Then a whole new kind of yarn caught my eye.

BERNAT GLOW-IN-THE-DARK YARN.
Oh yes.
Oh my God, yes.

I bought 3 skeins. I wasn't sure for a while what I'd do with it, but I looked at the picture above the display and saw a little boy wearing a skeleton sweater.

I decided, that I'm going to make a skeleton hoodie.
I'm so fucking excited.

Somehow I made the second sock waay too big for my foot? I don't know how I accomplished it, I'm fairly sure I started off with the same number of stitches..?

The first sock fits perfectly.

My plan thus far is to see if the little sock will stretch enough on my mom's size 9 feet to match the big sock. If it doesn't, I'll be knitting two more socks to try and make two pairs. Ugh.

Branching Out is officially bound off.
I like the way it looks as a scarf, I think it's cute.
And I really like the way it looks as a headband.

Most of all I'm really really really happy that it is off the needles.
I feel kinda bad because the original recipient was my English teacher, but I don't have her anymore, I don't even go to the same school anymore, so now I feel awkward coming back like, "Here's a tiny scarf I made you!"

...and I like it.

My socks aren't done (they're close though!), and my dad's penguin is not done (one wing left to knit!) but I must show my hair. After all the abuse it's gone through.. it deserves some recognition.

When I first did it (Last night?),I hated it. I was really upset.
I'm liking it a little more, it's still hard to figure out how to dress to offset it.. and I still wish I'd just left the damn thing alone.

But uh... Knitting wise..

I have found that my thin little Branching Out scarf that I'm honestly tired as hell of knitting would look super cute as a headband.. especially when it's against black hair.
This would be my silver lining.

Idk I'm sure I'll come to love it, because I've never totally hated anything I've done to my hair for long. But we'll see I suppose.

I was all set on doing sleeves, but I realized that, I do not own size 15 double-pointed needles, and I can't be assed to learn the technique with the one long circular needle, so short sleeved it is. :)

Rainbow Pothole Pattern

I wrote this as a basic pattern, as though it would be knitted in one color, but if you want a rainbow one like mine I'd recommend three lace repeats per color. (Red, orange, yellow, green, dark blue, purple. I know some people like to throw a light blue in there as well, that's up to you.)
I yet again did not do gauge. Oops! I just eyeballed it and made sure it was smaller than what I'd normally wear, because I want it to fit tightly. The lace is really stretchy (think Saturday Market Bag) so I don't think it'll be a big deal.
Translation: I'm lazy as hell. Sorry guys!
This is knit in top-down raglan style.

Basic
You'll need: 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn in any color, size 15 circular needles, size 15 DPNs (optional: you probably only need them if you're making it long-sleeve), and stitch markers

Body:
CO 44 st, join in round, pm.

k1 round

1. (k2tog, yo) four times, pm, (k2tog, yo) seven times, pm, (k2tog, yo) four times, pm, (k2tog, yo) seven times, pm.
2. (kf&b, k to 1 before marker, kf&b) to end
3. (yo, k2tog) to end
4. (kf&b, k to 1 before marker, kf&b) to end

Repeat rounds 1-4 twice, except round 1 will just be "(k2tog, yo) to end". Split off sleeves, remove markers

1. (K2tog, yo) to end
2. k to end
3. (yo, k2tog) to end
4. k to end

Repeat rounds 1-4 until desired length. (Try it on as you go!)

K1 round

BO.

Short sleeve:
Transfer live stitches from st holder to needles (22 st is what I had I believe), k1 round, BO.

Long sleeve:
I haven't personally done the long-sleeve one because I didn't have size 15 DPNs and I didn't want to wait to get them, but I started trying to do them on a short circular needle.
Start the same way, by transferring the live stitches from st holder to needles, and add a st marker.

Work the same rounds 1-4 as for the body, but every sixth round knit as follows:
k2tog, k to last 2 stitches, k2tog.

Work until it's the desired length.

K1 round

BO.

You might want to block. I did it the lazy way; I realized it was curling while I had it on, so I splashed some water on it and blowdried it. *shrugs* It worked decently haha.

Lattice Scarf Pattern

When I posted my finished lattice scarf on Craftster, I had some requests for a pattern, so here it is. :)

I didn't do the gauge for it or anything, but it's a scarf, gauge isn't a big deal haha.
I used: Patons SWS in Natural Earth, on size 9 needles.
CO 18 st

Knit 4 rows garter stitch

Row 1: K2, (K2tog, yo) 3 times, K1, (K2tog, yo) 3 times, K3
Row 2: K2, P to last two st, K2
Row 3: K3, (k2tog, yo) 2 times, K3, (K2tog, yo) 2 times, K4
Row 4: K2, P to last two st, K2

Repeat these rows til it's the length you want it (I made mine about 5' long, but I probably would've made it longer if I'd had more yarn)

Work 4 rows garter stitch
BO
And definitely, block, because it's super curly.

Really simple.

Pattern: Based on a stitch in a dictionary.. If anyone wants the pattern let me know, I took the liberty of writing out how exactly I made it.
So far it isn't blocked.. I still need to learn how to block things, tee hee, especially because this is really curly. It's only lying flat in the picture because I was using one hand to take the picture and the other to hold the scarf down. I love this scarf though, I started it July 3rd and finished in today, July 5th. Talk about instant gratification, yummy.

Above, you'll see a quite finished, quite wearable sock made according to the Quidditch Socks (or whatever it might be called) pattern from Charmed Knits. Toe-up, fits perfectly. I adore it. Made of Knitpicks Essential in Grass. Yummy. Next to it you'll see its yet unfinished pair by some Mike and Ike. Yumyumyum.

Now for the.. yet unfinished projects.

A pinwheel blanket and a branching out scarf without a picture. So sue me.

Behold; Only hours after this photo was taken I screwed up the lace pattern and had to frog for the billionth time. I didn't have it in me to fail again, soooo this is being reincarnated as the aforementioned unphotographed Branching Out scarf.

I ordered some yarn and needles from Knitpicks yesterday! Here's the rundown:
2 skeins of Shadow in Sunset Heather, probably for Branching Out, but I might choose another lace shawl. Or make two BO's (tee hee) and give one away. Decisions, decisions.
2 skeins of Essential in grass green for, of course, socks. My first pair of complete socks, hopefully.
Size 1 bamboo DPN's. I have some size 2.75 metal DPN's but they piss me off when I have only a few stitches on them, they all fall off.
A skein of Bare Merino Laceweight yarn for the Charlotte's Web scarf on The Anticraft. I can't remember the actual name of the pattern for the life of me, it's something like Charlotte A. ______. Then again, I haven't read Charlotte's Web recently. I don't know who it'll be for; most likely for some little kid in my life along with the book. I'm excited about doing lace now that I've actually figured out how. Especially because CW was my favorite book when I was little. Actually, the first actual book I ever finished. :)

Off the topic of knitting, I ordered the first season of The L Word as well. My sister got me the second season for Christmas and I love it. I haven't seen any of the first season though, so I figured I should go ahead and buy it. Yayyyy. It'll be mine all mine in 8-15 business days.
